During your baby's first year, breast milk or formula remains their primary source of nutrition. Even if you begin baby-led weaning, milk will still cover 80% of their nutritional needs. When you start offering solid foods, a question often arises: can my baby drink water? The answer is yes, in small amounts and several times during meals. Offering water to your baby is important for several reasons! Water aids digestion, promotes good oral hygiene, and helps your baby become familiar with glasses, straws, cups, and so on. But that's not all; water also helps rinse your baby's mouth so they can discover the true flavor of food, especially if there are multiple items on their plate. A small sip of water at the end of a meal helps rinse their mouth and ensures it's completely empty. Water will therefore be offered in small quantities to babies from 6 months old, and especially when babies need to hydrate a little more in case of high heat, fever, loose stools, etc.
