How to offer watermelon to a baby in a BLW diet?

The Watermelon

Watermelon is a popular summer fruit, prized for its refreshing taste and sweet flavor. For babies practicing BLW (baby-led weaning), watermelon can be an excellent introduction to solid foods from 6 months onwards, provided a few precautions are taken: don't forget to remove the seeds!

Hydration : Watermelon is more than 90% water, making it an excellent choice to help maintain baby's hydration, especially during the hot summer months.

Essential nutrients : Watermelon is rich in vitamins A and C, which are crucial for the development of a baby's vision, immune system, and skin. It also contains antioxidants like lycopene, which protect cells.

Dietary fiber : Although moderate, the fiber present in watermelon can help maintain good bowel function and prevent constipation.

Ease of consumption : The tender and juicy texture of watermelon makes it easy for babies to chew, even those without teeth. Cutting the watermelon into sticks or small pieces suitable for little hands encourages the baby's independence and fine motor skills.
