Watermelon is a summer fruit much appreciated for its freshness and sweet taste. For babies practicing BLW (food diversification led by the child), watermelon can be an excellent introduction to solid foods from 6 months, subject to a few precautions: we do not forget to remove the seeds!
Hydration : watermelon is made up of more than 90 % water, making it an excellent choice to help maintain the baby's hydration, especially during the hot summer months.
Essential nutrients : Watermelon is rich in vitamins A and C, which are crucial for the development of sight, the immune system and the baby's skin. It also contains antioxidants like Lycopene, which protect cells.
Dietary fibers : Although moderate, the fibers present in watermelon can help maintain a good intestinal transit and prevent constipation.
Ease of consumption : the tender and juicy texture of watermelon makes it easy to chew for babies, even those who do not yet have teeth. By cutting the watermelon into sticks or in small pieces suitable for small hands, we encourage the independence and fine motor skills of the baby.
