Before starting baby-led weaning (BLW), we ask ourselves many questions, including: can we offer sugar to our baby? BLW allows babies to discover the true flavor of foods in their natural form and later, in delicious recipes prepared with love. It would be a shame to mislead their palate by adding added sugar to meals and snacks. Therefore, during BLW BLW added sugars are strongly discouraged. This doesn't mean that baby food will be bland. Seasonal fruits and vegetables will add a naturally sweet flavor to baby's snacks. Raspberry cakes are delicious when offered to babies in the summer. Sugar remains, however, an important source of energy and is essential for the proper development of your little one's vital functions. On a daily basis, it will be important to offer babies simple and complex natural sugars to provide them with the energy they need to face a new day. These sugars are found in seasonal fruits and vegetables as well as in starchy foods.
