Baby-led weaning (BLW) begins when your baby is 6 months old, can sit upright in a highchair, can turn their head from side to side, and can bring food to their mouth. At 6 months, your baby may not yet have teeth , and this is absolutely no problem for starting BLW . The teeth used to grind food, the molars and premolars, typically erupt between 13 and 30 months. This means your little one might have to wait until they are about 2 and a half before eating solid foods. Your baby can chew perfectly well even without teeth. To "crunch" food, their palate, gums, and tongue will do the job perfectly! If you have any doubt, place your finger in your baby's mouth to check. At the beginning of weaning, you will start by offering your baby BLW with a suitable texture: soft and melt-in-the-mouth. This texture will be easy for your baby to eat. When teething begins, you can offer your baby snacks or meals that are crunchier in the mouth.
