How to offer baby apple in BLW

The apple

The apple, a fruit available year-round with numerous health benefits, is a must-try to introduce to your baby from 6 months old! But be careful, not just any apple will do! Raw apples are one of the foods most prone to choking. In addition to being hard, they can easily break in the mouth and become lodged in the airways.
Don't worry! We offer several ways to safely present apples to your baby!

The recipe:

Ingredients

  • 1 apple

Instructions

From 6 months: cooked apple wedges

1) Peel your apple and cut it into 4 pieces.
2) Remove the core.
3) Cut the apple into quarters
. 4) Steam the pieces for 10 minutes (they should be soft, but baby should still be able to grasp them).

Thanks to cooking, the apple will be soft and baby will be able to easily crush it in their mouth thanks to their palate, tongue and gums.

From 6 months: thick compote

1) Peel your apple and cut it into 4 pieces.
2) Remove the core.
3) Cut the apple into quarters.
4) Steam the pieces for 15 minutes.
5) Using a fork, mash the apple to make a compote.

Serve the compote in a pre-filled spoon . You can find various spoons designed specifically for BLW . These usually have two flat sides, so there's no right or wrong way to use them. The hole in the center allows you to pre-fill them with compote.
