Sugar we need it! It is a source of energy for our body and our brain. In addition, it plays an important role as to the proper functioning of vital functions . But beware of which sugar you offer baby!

Already before being born, baby knows the sugar : he is present in the amniotic fluid . When he was born, he will find him in milk . Then at the start of food diversification in fruits and certain vegetables . Sugar is therefore something innate!

Sugar and baby: What can we give as a baby sugar? You will find all our advice in this article.

Natural sugars vs sugars added

We find two types of natural sugars:

  • Simple sugars (fast sugars): these are those that are quickly digested: they are found in fruits and certain vegetables. It is sort of fuel from our body.
  • Complex sugars (slow sugars): this is our energy reserve. We find them in starchy foods (rice, bread, pasta, ...)

Then there are the sugars added:

It is the set of sugars that are added to our foods (cookies, yogurt, compote, ...) and our drinks (soda, juice, ...) by the manufacturer as well as the sugar we use to cook.

Pay attention to sugar consumption

I don't teach you anything by telling you that we usually consume far too much sugar ! While it presents an addictive potential as important as alcohol or cocaine .

In addition, the time recalls that the abuse of sugar whether in children or adults is associated with learning, concentration and memory difficulties. It also accentuates the risk of obesity.

Other research has shown that in children this also increases the risks of hypertension, of type 2 liver disease.

This is why it is strongly advised not to give baby added baby before his 12 months. Or even ideally 3 years.

But avoiding sugar becomes more and more difficult because the processed diet is very rich in sugar! So how to avoid this excess?

–> Avoid transformed foods as much as possible and prepare homemade meals!
