Milk and dairy products

Milk

Milk (maternal or infantile) will remain baby's diet up to its 12 months . The recommended quantity is 500 to 800ml per day to ensure that the majority of its nutritional needs be covered. Food diversification will not remove milk , you simply gradually add solid foods to its meals.

Sheep's milks, cow and other mammals , can be introduced into baby's diet during food diversification . However, they are not suitable for replacing the daily doses of milk needed. Only infant milks or breast milk has a perfectly suitable composition.

Also pay attention vegetable juice " often wrongly called " vegetable milk ", just like the different milks mentioned above, they can only be used in preparations and not to replace the daily doses of recommended milk.

Dairy products

The dairy products bring together white cheese , yogurts (as well as small Swiss) and cheese . Their intake of calcium , protein and fatty acids is significant for baby as well as for adults! In addition, this allows baby to discover new flavors and new textures.

From what age can we offer baby dairy products in BLW ?

From the 6 months of baby and therefore at the start of its food diversification, you can offer baby dairy products.

What to choose as baby yogurt in BLW ?

Favor natural yogurts to avoid added sugar. To be able to vary tastes and pleasures, you can add a spoon of homemade fruit compote without sugar.

What about baby yogurts then?

These are generally composed of cow's milk and are often more sweet and above all more expensive! The only advantage they may have in relation to "conventional yogurts" is that they should not be kept in the refrigerator, which can be quite practical when you go for a walk with baby.

Can baby in BLW eat cheese?

It would be a shame to deprive baby of cheese, so he can taste it from the start of his BLW ! Be careful, however, to favor pasteurized cheeses as well as cheeses with pressed pasta cooked like:

  • Ricotta, mozzarella, spread
  • Comté, Beaufort, Gruyère
