The transporter and the pre-filled spoon: BLW 's allies

What is a carrier?

In BLW , you will very quickly hear about the "carrier". But what exactly is it?

A carrier is a food item that serves as a base for other textures, particularly those that are smooth or difficult to grasp. It allows babies to manipulate and discover foods independently, without frustration.

Examples of ready-to-use carriers:

  • Crispy toast, "flower bread" type (the chestnut version is ideal to start with: melting and easy to chew)

  • Rice cake

Homemade transporters:

  • Cooked vegetable sticks: baby can dip them in a yogurt sauce, hummus, etc
  • Blinis
  • Pancakes
  • Pancakes
  • Pieces of fruit cut and rolled in coconut powder, almonds, …

The carrier will serve as a support and will allow the baby to discover foods that he or she would not have had the opportunity to eat independently.

You can soak or spread it on your carriers:

The pre-filled spoon: what is it?

The pre-filled spoon is another very practical tip in BLW . As its name suggests, it consists of preparing a spoon with a smooth texture (compote, yogurt, fine puree…) that baby can grasp and bring to their mouth independently.

It's a great way to develop fine motor skills while discovering new flavors. To learn more, check out our article: BLW Essentials : Our Favorite Pre-Filled Spoons .

Some helpful advice:

  • During the first few tries, don't be surprised if your baby spreads more of the applesauce on their face than in their mouth. This is normal: they are learning to coordinate their movements and aim!

  • The goal is autonomy and discovery, not quantity consumed. Each meal is a learning experience.

Carriers and pre-filled spoons are therefore your best allies to accompany baby step by step in their food diversification, safely and with pleasure.
