Milk
Breast milk or formula will remain your baby's diet until they are 12 months old . The recommended amount is 500 to 800 ml per day to ensure that the majority of their nutritional needs are met. Introducing solid foods will not replace milk ; it simply involves gradually adding solid foods to their meals.
Sheep's milk, cow's milk, and milk from other mammals can be introduced into a baby's diet during weaning . However, they are not suitable for replacing the daily milk intake a baby needs. Only infant formula or breast milk has a perfectly adapted composition.
Also beware plant juice " often wrongly called " plant milk ", just like the different milks mentioned above, they can only be used in preparations and not as a replacement for the recommended daily doses of milk.
Dairy products
Dairy products include cottage cheese , yogurt (including fromage frais), and cheese . Their calcium , protein , and fatty acid is significant for both babies and adults! Furthermore, they allow babies to discover new flavors and textures.
From what age can dairy products be offered to babies on a BLW ?
From 6 months of age, and therefore at the beginning of their food diversification, you can offer dairy products to your baby.
What type of yogurt should I choose for a baby using BLW diet?
Choose plain yogurt to avoid added sugar. To add variety and enjoyment, you can add a spoonful of homemade, unsweetened fruit compote.
And what about baby yogurts?
These are generally made from cow's milk and are often sweeter and, above all, more expensive! The only advantage they may have over "classic yogurts" is that they do not need to be kept in the refrigerator, which can be quite convenient when going for a walk with a baby.
Can a baby on BLW eat cheese?
It would be a shame to deprive baby of cheese, so they can taste it right from the start of their BLW ! However, be sure to choose pasteurized cheeses and cooked pressed cheeses such as:
- Ricotta, mozzarella, spreadable cheese
- Comté, Beaufort, Gruyère
