Babies need fat in their diet because it is essential for proper brain development.

What types of fats can be used to prepare baby food?

When ?

From birth, babies consume fats, whether through breast milk or formula. When babies start BLW 1 to 2 teaspoons of fat should be daily.

Which fats?

There are no good or bad fats: the key is to vary them as much as possible!

The oils

It is important to try to and first cold-pressed oils , this preserves their qualities.

Olive oil, rapeseed oil, sunflower oil, linseed oil, grapeseed oil, coconut oil, walnut oil, sesame oil, …

You have a multitude of vegetable oils to introduce to your baby ! Each one will provide nutrients necessary for their development: so be sure to alternate them as much as possible!

And what about butter and fresh cream?

Although it is better to favour fats of vegetable origin, butter and fresh cream also have their place in a baby's diet .

You can butter baby's toast , put a knob of butter in a puree , but all in moderation !

Fresh cream can add creaminess to some baby food. However, it is not a substitute for dairy products!

How to introduce fats into a baby's diet?

It's best not to cook fats , as they will lose some of their beneficial properties . Add a drizzle of vegetable oil at the end of cooking, even if you've already used fats during the preparation of your meal.
