The three main stages of baby-led weaning

Baby-led weaning (BLW) is structured around three main stages. Throughout this wonderful adventure, your little one will progress through these stages at their own pace. The ages given for these important milestones are for informational purposes only, as every baby is different! Baby-led weaning begins with the discovery stage around 6 to 7 months, during which your little one's five senses will be stimulated at each meal. BLW continues with the development stage around 7 to 9 months. Your baby will begin to develop their fine motor skills and discover foods through delicious homemade recipes. Finally, baby-led weaning concludes with the refinement stage around 9 to 12 months. Your baby will be able to eat with utensils and enjoy recipes with crunchier textures.

The evolution of meals during baby-led weaning

Just like your little one, meals evolve throughout baby-led weaning (BLW). At the beginning of BLW , meals consist of fresh, seasonal fruits and vegetables. The introduction of finger foods during BLW begins gently with naturally sweet foods. Later, baby's meals will include soft, melt-in-the-mouth recipes so that baby can easily eat them without teeth, such as pancakes, muffins, and so on. It's only later in BLW that the plates will start to look much like those of other family members. BLW can tantalize the taste buds of both young and old.

The composition of a balanced plate during baby-led weaning

After the baby-led weaning ( BLW , it will be time to introduce your little one to solid foods through delicious homemade recipes. To provide a healthy and varied diet during baby-led weaning , you can create beautiful, balanced meals. At each meal, you can awaken your baby's taste buds by creating a plate composed of the five food groups: starches, dairy products, fats, proteins, and seasonal fruits and vegetables. These five food groups all offer essential nutrients for your baby's healthy development during baby-led weaning. Several recipes adapted for baby-led weaning will be essential for creating balanced meals every day.

Until what age can baby-led weaning be done?

Everyone knows that baby-led weaning (BLW) begins as early as 6 months when baby is ready and meets the prerequisites. However, we don't know when it ends… We can say that baby-led weaning never truly ends. Throughout BLW BLW you've instilled good eating habits in your baby by offering naturally sweet recipes, seasonal fruits and vegetables, delicious homemade meals, and so on. All these good habits will remain with them and will be beneficial throughout their life. Every day, your little one, now much too big for it, will move towards a healthy and balanced diet thanks to baby-led weaning !

Starting purees at 4 months and wanting to start BLW at 6 months is perfectly possible. Or perhaps you're wondering how to combine breast milk/infant formula and BLW .
