Introducing two new foods into a 12-month-old baby's diet

Increasing the protein portion in the diet of a 12-month-old baby

As you already know, protein is important for your baby's healthy development. However, you need to be careful about the amounts you offer. Until now, babies could only have a 10-gram portion per day. For a 12-month-old , this portion increases to 20 grams of protein per day. Remember that even for a 12-month-old , nutritional balance is achieved within a week. If your baby eats more than 20 grams one day, offer less the next. Don't hesitate to vary the types of protein: meat, fish, and eggs!

Is water part of a 12-month-old baby's diet?

From the very beginning of weaning, water is introduced in small quantities, as milk covers the majority of a baby's energy needs. But what about a 12-month-old ? At this stage diet. Water can then be offered in various containers: bottle, cup, glass, or sippy cup. Always place the container near your baby while they are eating. Don't hesitate to offer more water if your baby is very hot, has loose stools, a fever, etc.

At 12 months, a baby's diet is almost identical to yours. However, there are a few exceptions. First, salt. It's not recommended until your baby is three years old. If you're making pasta, cook it in unsalted water. Next, sugar. You can include sugar in a 12-month-old's diet . But be careful: prioritize simple and complex natural sugars over added sugars. Homemade meals or snacks are a good way to achieve this. Finally, allergens. If you haven't yet introduced all allergens into your baby's diet, be sure to do so!
